RIE 2025 call : 2 laureates at the INCIA
Launched between January and April 2025, the third call for interdisciplinary and exploratory research projects (RIE) at the University of Bordeaux once again generated strong interest within the university’s scientific community. The two initial requirements were renewed for this edition: to propose an exploratory project—meaning innovative and breaking with past work—and to be rooted at the intersection of scientific disciplines. A total of 67 eligible applications were submitted, once more involving all 11 research departments.
Following an evaluation process involving department directors, an ad hoc committee of the Research Commission, an interdisciplinary group of young researchers, and previous award winners, 20 proposals were approved by the University’s Steering Committee. Among these, 5 come from laboratories at Bordeaux Neurocampus, 2 of which involve researchers from INCIA.
BioPsy – Biomarkers of Emotional Empathy and Psychosocial Determinants of Vicarious Trauma and Burnout in Healthcare Professionals
To analyze the psychosocial factors of vulnerability and resilience, while identifying objective biomarkers of vicarious trauma and/or burnout, in order to better protect populations exposed to the suffering of others, such as healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and family caregivers.

One_Health – Exposure to Gadolinium: Health, Environmental, and Societal Threats
The increasing presence of gadolinium-based contrast agents (Gd-CAs) in aquatic ecosystems and drinking water raises major environmental and health concerns. The ONE HEALTH project aims to address these issues by identifying the (eco)toxicological effects and risks associated with the growing exposure of aquatic ecosystems and humans to these emerging contaminants. To achieve this, four complementary and exploratory research areas will be pursued to assess: the ecotoxicological effects of chronic exposure to Gd-CAs on early life stages of fish; the toxicological effects of chronic exposure to Gd-CAs in pregnant mice and their offspring; the associated health and environmental risks; and how current law and public policy address—or should address—these emerging contaminants, in line with the fundamental right to a healthy environment and through integrated approaches based on the “Exposome” and “One Health” concepts.
